Danieli launched the company with mountain-climbing boots, then moved into football in the mid-1970s and into tennis with an endorsement deal with Björn Borg. Through the 1980s and 1990s Diadora became woven into football culture — its shoes a status symbol of British "casual" terrace style, and its boots worn and personalised by stars like Marco van Basten (the San Siro) and Roberto Baggio (the Matchwinner).
The brand also outfitted clubs including AS Roma and made rugby kits for New Zealand's Otago. In 2009 Diadora was bought by Geox founder Mario Moretti Polegato through his family's investment arm, and it continues to supply football kits today, from Norway's Viking FK to a 2025 return to Brazilian football.
