Story & heritage
Stetson dates the Stratoliner to 1940 and says it took both its name and inspiration from Boeing’s pressurized-cabin Stratoliner aircraft. The official story positions it as a sleek, lighter-weight fedora for a new breed of traveler.
The model’s identity is more urbane than the cowboy hats: a rakish angled crown, streamlined brim and special airplane pin connect it to mid-century travel, Rat Pack polish and jet-age dressing.
Materials & craft
The current Stratoliner is handcrafted in the U.S.A. from quality felt. Stetson specifies a 4 1/2-inch teardrop crown, 2 1/2-inch bound-edge brim, grosgrain hatband, special edition pin, genuine leather sweatband and full satin liner.
How to choose & style
Let the Stratoliner do the dressed-up work. It pairs naturally with overcoats, knit polos, western tailoring or a clean denim jacket, and reads less ranch and more travel lounge than a full cowboy brim.
