Story & heritage
After the 2017 acquisition by Gildan, the official American Apparel assortment has focused on premium wholesale essentials rather than runway novelty. The icons here are the pieces that carry the brand's recognisable vocabulary now: Fine Jersey tees, CVC and Tri-Blend heathers, Heavyweight Cotton concert blanks, Baby Rib fits, and ReFlex fleece.
RF491 is the ReFlex Fleece sweatpant and the official match for the RF497, RF498, RF496, and RF494 sweatshirts. It turns the hoodie family into a full uniform, which is exactly where American Apparel basics have always been strongest.
Materials & craft
The official specification includes 3-end lightweight fleece with a portion of recycled polyester, a 100% combed ring-spun cotton face, covered elastic waistband with external dyed-to-match recycled polyester flatcords, side pockets, differential rise, retro-inspired covered elastic bottom band, side-seamed body, and recycled tear-away label.
How to choose & style
Wear them as a set with ReFlex hoodies or as the soft bottom under a sharp blank tee. The elastic bottom band gives a retro athletic shape, so sneakers and simple socks matter more than loud styling.
