Story & heritage
The Backland XTD Carbon 120 GW is Atomic’s hard-flexing touring boot for skiers who want strong skiing performance without giving up walking efficiency. Official copy frames it as the answer for powering wider touring skis while still climbing naturally.
Within Atomic’s equipment universe it is the boot-side match for Backland skis: lighter, more mobile and more backcountry-specific than the alpine Hawx Prime world.
Materials & craft
The boot uses a 100 mm medium touring last, GripWalk Sole compatibility with GripWalk, MN, MNC and Pin bindings, Prolite shell reinforcement, Memory Fit, 3D Platinum Tour liner, Hybrid Overlap shell construction, Cross Lace 2.5 and 74° of cuff rotation. Atomic lists 1419 g per boot in size 26/26.5.
How to choose & style
Choose it when the route is mostly uphill but the descent still needs authority. It is especially coherent with Backland 109 or similarly wide touring skis where a softer boot would fold.
