Story & heritage
Atomic calls the Shift 13 MN a game-changer and the world’s first binding with full touring and freeride capability in one. It uses tech pins for hiking, then switches into a genuine freeride binding for skiing down.
The Shift is a rare icon because it is not a ski or boot silhouette; it changed the system around them, making one setup more plausible for sidecountry, touring laps and resort days.
Materials & craft
The binding uses an oversized platform for lateral power transmission, a Hike and Ride Switch, crampon compatibility and Multi Norm Certified compatibility. Atomic lists MNC + Pin boot compatibility, brake widths of 90, 100, 110 and 120 mm, and release values from 6 to 13.
How to choose & style
Use Shift when you need one ski to spend meaningful time both inbounds and on skins. It is heavier than minimalist tech bindings but far more resort-coherent on the descent.
