Story & heritage

The Edith arrived in 2006, at the height of Chloé's mid-2000s handbag moment that the Paddington had opened. A structured-yet-soft leather satchel with rolled top handles and heavy contrast stitching, it became one of the defining bags of the boho-luxe years.

The Edith holds particular significance for Gabriela Hearst, Chloé's creative director from 2020 to 2023, who has said the carry-all was the first luxury handbag she ever owned and brought it back from the archive in her debut collection for the house.

Materials & craft

The Edith is cut from supple, naturally grained calfskin and finished with the thick, contrasting saddle-stitching that runs along its seams, handles and front pocket. A buckled flap pocket sits on the face, the rolled top handles are seamed by hand, and a small embossed Chloé tab marks the interior. The leather is treated to age and soften with use.

How to choose & style

The Edith is the archetypal mid-2000s Chloé — its tan leather and visible stitching are made to look better worn-in than new. Carried in the hand by its rolled handles, it leans into the relaxed, slightly undone register the house built its reputation on. Brown and cognac are the definitive colours; the patina is part of the appeal.
