Story & heritage
Le Petit Calino was introduced on the Jacquemus Spring 2024 runway, a softly structured little bag whose defining feature is an integrated asymmetric ring handle — a single gold-tone loop that the body seems to hang from. The name, from the French câlin (a cuddle), suits the pillowy, almost cushioned silhouette.
It marked a shift in the house's bag language: where the Chiquito and Bambino are crisp and architectural, the Calino is rounded and tactile, a sculptural object as much as a carry. It quickly became one of the label's most-photographed newer shapes, appearing on the arms of the designer's regular cast of models and friends.
Materials & craft
The Petit Calino is crafted from smooth leather with a softly puffed, lightly gathered body and an integrated metal ring handle that doubles as hardware and silhouette. The gold-tone JACQUEMUS lettering is engraved discreetly on the ring or body. A removable strap allows shoulder carry; the compact interior holds a phone and a few essentials.
How to choose & style
The Calino is a hand-carry first — held by the ring it reads as a sculptural accessory. Black is the most versatile and shows the silhouette most clearly; seasonal colours and croc-jacquard editions push it more decorative. Its rounded softness is a deliberate counterpoint to sharp tailoring, and it sits especially well with the house's fluid, draped pieces.
