The Cahier debuted on Prada's Fall/Winter 2016 runway and took its name from the French word for notebook. Miuccia Prada drew its semi-structured, boxy form directly from antique book bindings and travel notebooks, treating the bag as an object with narrative and character rather than a conventional flap bag — a literary, vintage-leaning departure that marked a turning point in the house's accessories.

The Cahier is a semi-structured, boxy flap bag finished to look like the cover of an antique volume: antiqued gold-tone metal corners and ornate hardware frame the body and accent the buckled closure, evoking the metal cornerpieces of an old book binding.
