Story & heritage
The Re-Edition 2005 revives a Prada archive shoulder bag from 2005, reissued as part of the house's archive-revival line in regenerated Re-Nylon. Re-Nylon — launched by Prada in 2019 — is made from ECONYL regenerated nylon, spun from recycled and purified plastic waste including ocean plastics, fishing nets and textile fibres, repositioning the house's heritage nylon as a sustainability story rather than a purely retro one.
In bringing the 2005 design back, Prada reframed a Y2K-era shape for a new generation, pairing the nostalgia of the early-2000s It bag with a contemporary material conscience. It has since become one of the most-copied mini bags on the market.
Materials & craft
The 2005 has a soft, curved hobo body in Re-Nylon trimmed with Saffiano leather, and it is the more functional of the two Re-Editions: it typically arrives as a versatile multi-piece set, with a detachable chain handle, an adjustable logo-print woven strap, and a removable zippered nylon pouch that carries its own logo plaque. Silver- or gold-tone hardware, the signature enamel triangle logo and the nylon logo lining complete it.
How to choose & style
The 2005 is the do-it-all Re-Edition — buy it when you want one nylon bag that shape-shifts. Run it cross-body on the woven strap for daytime, then swap to the chain handle for evening and clip the little pouch off as a standalone mini. Black is the forever choice, but the Re-Nylon palette is where this bag earns its keep: a saturated red, pink or blue turns a practical everyday shoulder bag into the focal point of an otherwise neutral outfit.
