Re-checked daily
Bellerose is a Belgian clothing company headquartered in Groot-Bijgaarden, a suburb of Brussels, started in 1989 with a line of men's shirts.

Founded by Jean-Pierre Delhaye, Charly Bouvy and Patrick Van Heurck, the brand took its name from Bellerose, New York — a small town just outside the city — a nod to the American references behind its approach to style. Van Heurck remains the primary owner and director of design. The first store opened in Knokke on the Belgian coast around 1990, followed by shops in Paris's Saint-Germain-des-Prés and Bastille, and in Kortrijk, Namur and Brussels.

The wardrobe grew over the years: a first women's collection arrived in 1998 and a children's line in 2002. By 2013 Bellerose owned and operated 22 stores, including two in France, with its line carried by many other shops worldwide.

Bellerose shopping FAQ

Is Bellerose worth it for everyday clothing?+

If you like quietly designed casualwear, it's an easy brand to live with. Bellerose is a Belgian label that has built its name on well-made, wearable basics rather than loud branding. Shoppers tend to come to it for considered everyday pieces — shirts especially — so it suits anyone after understated quality over logos.

Where is Bellerose from?+

It's Belgian. Bellerose Belgium is headquartered in Groot-Bijgaarden, a suburb of Brussels, and has operated from there as a clothing company selling under the Bellerose brand. Despite the very American-sounding name, the design and the company sit firmly in Belgium.

Why is a Belgian brand called Bellerose?+

The name is a deliberate American nod. Bellerose was named after Bellerose, New York — a small American town just outside New York City — as a wink to the American references behind the brand's approach to style. So the name is part of the aesthetic, signalling an easy, U.S.-inflected take on casual dressing.

When was Bellerose founded, and by whom?+

Bellerose was started in 1989 by Jean-Pierre Delhaye, Charly Bouvy, and Patrick Van Heurck, launching with a line of men's shirts. That shirt-first beginning still shapes how people think of the brand, and it has grown steadily from those origins over the decades since.

What did Bellerose make first?+

Men's shirts. The brand launched in 1989 specifically with a men's shirt line, which is why shirting remains central to its identity. If you want the most quintessentially Bellerose item, a well-cut casual shirt is the natural starting point.

Does Bellerose make womenswear and kidswear too?+

It does, and the expansion was gradual. After starting in menswear, Bellerose released its first women's collection in 1998, followed by a children's line in 2002. Today it's a brand a whole household can dress from, which is part of its appeal as a casual lifestyle label.

Who owns and designs Bellerose now?+

Patrick Van Heurck, one of the three original founders, remains the primary owner and director of design. That continuity at the top is unusual for a casual fashion brand and helps explain why Bellerose's look has stayed consistent rather than chasing trends.

Does Bellerose have physical stores?+

Yes, it has long run its own shops. Bellerose opened its first store in Knokke, by the Belgian coast, around 1990 or 1991, and later added locations including Kortrijk, Namur and Brussels, plus a store in Antwerp next to the city's Museum of Fashion. As of 2013 the brand owned and operated 22 stores, including two in France, with its line also carried by many other shops worldwide.

Is Bellerose a well-established brand or a newcomer?+

It's well established. Founded in 1989 and trading for more than three decades, Bellerose weathered the wider downturn of the late 2000s and continued to plan expansion into markets such as Germany and Britain. For a casual brand, that's a long and steady track record.
