Story & heritage

The GG Marmont arrived in 2016, early in Alessandro Michele's tenure, and became one of the defining bags of his Gucci. Its name nods to the Marmont collection's vintage codes; its face is unmistakable — a soft chevron matelassé quilt closed by an oversized, antique-finish Double-G that reinterprets a 1970s house monogram.

Across cross-body, shoulder, camera-bag and belt-bag formats, the Marmont became a global bestseller, the bag that most visibly signalled Gucci's mid-2010s renaissance and remains a fixture of the line today.

Materials & craft

The Marmont is quilted in soft matelassé chevron leather, the stitching running in the inverted-V pattern that gives the bag its quilted volume. The Double-G hardware is cast with a deliberately aged, antique-gold finish. A small detail rewards a second look: a heart-shaped quilt is stitched into the back of the bag. The sliding chain-and-leather strap lets it be worn long across the body or doubled for the shoulder.

How to choose & style

The small shoulder bag is the workhorse of the line — large enough for daily essentials, dressy enough for evening. Black with antique gold is the default; the dusty-rose and seasonal colours read softer. The mini camera bag is the casual, hands-free option. The chevron quilt and aged hardware give the Marmont a slightly vintage register that keeps it from feeling overtly branded.
