Story & heritage
The Ophidia, introduced in 2017, is Alessandro Michele's most concentrated statement of Gucci's heritage codes. It combines three archive signatures at once: the GG Supreme canvas, the green-red-green Web stripe, and a vintage Double-G in aged gold drawn from the 1970s monogram.
Available as a dome bag, a small shoulder bag, a belt bag and a backpack, the Ophidia became the line that most clearly translated the house's vintage-Italian register into an everyday carry.
Materials & craft
The Ophidia is built around the GG Supreme — a coated canvas woven with the interlocking-G monogram, chosen for its durability and water resistance — trimmed in leather. The Web stripe runs across the face, and the antiqued Double-G hardware fastens or decorates the front. The construction is deliberately retro: rounded edges, a soft dome body, and hardware finished to look archival rather than new.
How to choose & style
The Ophidia is the recognisably logo-ed Gucci — the GG canvas and Web read clearly from across a room, which is part of its appeal. The small shoulder bag and the dome are the most versatile; the belt bag is the casual format. It sits most naturally with relaxed, weekend dressing and against denim, where the heritage print does the work.
