Reine de Naples
The oval women's line inspired by the wristwatch Abraham-Louis Breguet made for Caroline Murat, Queen of Naples.
Story & heritage
The Reine de Naples collection is Breguet's tribute to the first watch designed to be worn on the wrist, created by Abraham-Louis Breguet for Caroline Murat, Queen of Naples. The maison records the 1810 order as the origin point for the modern line.
Rather than reproducing the lost historical watch, the collection interprets its royal wristwatch idea through an ovoid case, asymmetric dial placements, precious materials and complications scaled for a feminine Breguet.
Materials & craft
The Reine de Naples 8968 has a 43 x 35 mm ovoid case in 18K rose gold, a sapphire caseback, an anthracite hand-guilloché gold dial and Breguet pomme ouverte hands. The case is set with 26 brilliant-cut diamonds and one briolette-cut diamond, while automatic calibre 591 C provides a 38-hour power reserve.
How to choose & style
Reine de Naples is the Breguet to choose when shape matters as much as mechanics. The black-strap rose-gold versions feel refined and dressy; mother-of-pearl, gem-set and bracelet executions move toward jewellery. Its oval case reads best when left visible, worn slightly loose like a jewel.
