Story & heritage
The Amazona was designed in 1975 as a companion for the expanding female workforce — named after the Amazons of Greek mythology, a race of warrior women. Its doctor-bag silhouette with dual top handles was intended to hold everything needed over a working day: structured enough for the boardroom, generous enough for the commute.
Jonathan Anderson officially relaunched the Amazona in 2021, celebrating it as the house's oldest continuous bag form. The reissue maintained the original's hooped handles and rigid base but updated the proportions and introduced the Amazona 180 — a modern variant that nods to the archive while reflecting the house's current aesthetic language.
Materials & craft
The Amazona is crafted in classic calfskin or grained calfskin at Loewe's ateliers in Barcelona and Getafe. Its rectangular frame is structured around a leather-covered base board; the Anagram padlock closure in gold- or silver-tone metal is the signature hardware detail. Hand-painted edges in black or tan — a hallmark of Loewe's small leather goods tradition — appear on the interior panelling.
How to choose & style
The 23 is the day-to-day scale — right for office, lunch, and evening without feeling oversized. The 28 suits heavier travel days or anyone who works from a bag. Rich chocolates and tan calfskins honour the house's leather heritage; newer seasons offer bright sorbet tones for those wanting the silhouette with a contemporary colour story.
