Story & heritage

The Flamenco has been part of Loewe's archive since the 1980s, its name and silhouette drawn from the gathered skirts of Andalusian flamenco dance. The bag's defining gesture is a drawstring top that cinches shut with coiled leather knots — a reference to the knot tying used in traditional Spanish leatherwork.

Jonathan Anderson modernised the Flamenco in 2015, preserving the gathered top and knotted drawstring pulls while refining the body into cleaner, suppler lines. The SS24 season introduced the Flamenco Purse line, a structured reinterpretation with a more architectural base that sits alongside the classic clutch versions.

Materials & craft

The Flamenco is made in smooth nappa lambskin or mellow nappa calfskin — leathers chosen for their natural drape, which allows the gathered top to fall in soft, fluid pleats. The coiled knots at the drawstring ends are hand-formed from the same leather; the interior is fully lined in suede. Available with or without a detachable chain or leather strap.

How to choose & style

The Medium as a shoulder bag, knot pulls loose, is the most effortless silhouette — works from day into evening without reconfiguring. The Mini clutch is the occasion piece: it focuses the bag's drama into a compact form that photographs beautifully. Suede editions in earth tones (tan, chocolate, stone) feel the most heritage-adjacent; metallic versions push the look toward evening.
